Laws of history
According to Islam, the signs of God are to be observed not only in nature, but in history as well. History has therefore to be studied to discern the signs of God. Islamic history is to be conceived as a warning against certain pattern of action and exhortation to adopt a certain course of life. They Holy Quran enunciates some basic laws of history. The fundamental law is the law of Ibrah, i.e. warning and exhortation. The Holy Quran declares that the rise and fall of nations has a divine purpose to fulfil. It is also provided that Allah does not change the condition of a people unless they develop the will to change their condition. The Muslims are enjoined to undertake jihad in the name of God. It is at the same time stressed that the greatest Jihad is against man's lust. The Holy Prophet said,
